2010 Toucan Open - A Blast From The Past! September 10-12 at Lake McConaughy |
|
Once upon a time, in a land far away (or maybe it was right here in Denver) the windsurfers of the mountains and the city packed up their colorful sails and tied their windsurfers and their teak booms to the roof racks and made a pilgrimage east to Ogallala to celebrate the impending end to summer in the Rocky Mountains. They brought the kids, dogs and their friends and gathered on the sandy white beaches of Lake McConaughy to windsurf, play in the water and build campfires to attract the occasional traveling gypsy who was on the way back east from a summer in the far lands of the Columbia River. The boards were long, the clothing was neon and the harnesses were few and far between. So, for 2010 - we are getting back to the roots of the Toucan (or the Flamingo, if you like)! It will be a weekend of camping, windsurfing and fun. The Larson's crew will be there to throw some marks in the water and run a few races if anyone is interested. There will be no entry fee, no trophies, no t-shirts. If everyone brings a dish for a Saturday night potluck, we can gather on the beach and eat together and watch the sun set. We hope you come, bring your friends and teach them to windsurf, and let's celebrate another year of getting to do what we all love! We will arrange for port-a-lets if we get enough donations to pay for at least half of the cost. If you are interested in donating, just drop us a line or call the shop at 303.423.0654!
